Websites Our Clients Own, and Edit by Conversation
Stromy builds each client a real, standalone website in a repository they own, on open web standards with no proprietary builder to rent from, then hands the owner a simple chat interface to write posts, swap images and restyle their brand themselves, with every change previewed, tested and reversible before it goes live.
The Challenge
Most businesses do not own their website. They rent it. A site built on Squarespace, Wix or Webflow lives inside that platform’s account and runtime: the layout, the content and the branding all held in the vendor’s own database, in the vendor’s own format. It looks like yours, but you cannot take it with you. Stop paying and it goes dark. Try to leave and there is no clean codebase to hand a developer, so migrating means rebuilding from scratch. The convenience is real, and so is the quiet dependency: the site and the subscription are the same thing.
There is a second cost that shows up later. To keep a rented site current you either learn the builder’s editor or you pay someone every time a paragraph changes. Owning a real custom website has historically meant the opposite trade: a portable codebase you control, but one only a developer can touch. So businesses were forced to choose: easy to edit but rented, or owned but dependent on engineers for every word.
Stromy set out to remove the choice.
Our Approach
A real website, in a repository you own. Every site we build is a standalone codebase in its own repository, held in your name, not a tenant inside our platform, and not inside anyone else’s. It is built on open web standards, so any developer, or any modern AI coding tool, can pick it up and extend it. There is no proprietary runtime to be locked into and no subscription that holds the site hostage. If you ever want to walk away, you do not lose a login. You take your code with you. That is the whole difference between renting a presence and owning an asset.
Generated from your brand, not a template. We do not start from a theme. Your brand (colours, typography, logo, imagery, and the rules that make it feel like you) is captured once as structured brand data, and the entire site is generated from it. Change the brand in one place and it propagates everywhere, consistently. The result is a site engineered specifically for you, deployed on modern cloud infrastructure with a live preview of every change before it ships: the polish of a bespoke build without the bespoke timeline.
Edit it yourself, just by talking. This is where owning the code stops being a principle and becomes a daily advantage. Through a simple chat interface, the site’s owner edits their own site directly, with no code, no logins and no waiting on a developer. Write and publish a blog article. Swap a photo. Reword a service. Restyle the brand. You describe the change in plain language; the assistant drafts it, shows you a preview, and publishes only once you say so. Every edit is automatically checked before it can go live, and any change can be undone in a single step. Because the boundaries are enforced, you can only ever touch your own site, never the engineering underneath by accident, and never anyone else’s.
Content you control, structure we safeguard. The split is deliberate. Your words, images and branding are yours to change whenever you like. The parts that keep a site fast, secure and correct stay protected, handled by us as a safety net. You get self-service where it helps, and guardrails where they matter, so “edit it yourself” never becomes “break it yourself.”
The Outcome
Clients get a website that is genuinely theirs: an owned asset on open standards, not a rented slot on someone else’s platform. And, just as importantly, they get the ability to keep it alive themselves.
Rebeca Elmúdesi, a Madrid-based visual artist, runs her portfolio at rebecaelmudesi.com and publishes new exhibition series to it herself, uploading and arranging her own work through the chat interface, with no developer in the loop. Start to Scale, a Dutch fractional-CFO firm, has a bilingual site built the same way, generated from its brand and ready for its team to maintain, with its own domain going live shortly.
The model scales quietly. As more clients come online, each one gets the same two things: a real codebase they own, and a no-code way to run it. For a business, that turns a website from a recurring dependency into a durable asset: one they can update the moment something changes, and take anywhere they choose.
